Gatorade and Work & Co Launch ‘Highlights’ to Help Athletes Showcase Skills

Gatorade has unveiled “Highlights”, a new mobile product to help athletes capture and elevate their individual sports accomplishments.

Work & Co led strategy, branding, design, and development of the new platform.

Available for both iOS and Android, the free app enables video capture and editing features like spotlight. Users can then easily share their high-quality content with their teammates, coaches, fans, and friends across social channels or through email and text message.

To deliver a similar experience for iOS and Android users, the Work & Co tech team chose cross-platform and open source tools like Xamarin, OpenGL, and the Skia graphics library, which enabled the creation of easily customizable yet visually rich animations.

Unique features include:

  • Stickers that are more than fun — they convey sports performance. They respond to time and motion, and help users measure athletic performance, such as running speed or height of a jump.
  • Broadcast-quality graphics paired with lightweight simple-to-use effects to better see moves on the field, such as replay and spotlight.
  • Easy customization in the profile section to bring more attention to your skills by adding your name, team, school, jersey number or position.

The move comes as Gatorade focuses on digital innovation and invests in new ways to connect with athletes. “Young athletes are increasingly searching for ways to showcase their unique skills and distinct identities, and then share them with the world,” said Work & Co Associate Partner Caleb Yarian. “That insight became the strategic foundation for Gatorade Highlights: building a digital platform that fuels athlete individuality."
