New PGA TOUR Site Debuts
February 07, 2023
The PGA TOUR’s newly-built website is officially live.
Following the launch of PGA TOUR's new apps in late 2022, fans can now immerse themselves in updates including: a contextualized leaderboard, deep data, rich visuals, and an intuitive fan experience.
Everything was rebuilt, including the technology that supports the app and website. As the PGA TOUR’s agency, Work & Co led digital strategy, design, and development of all the new platforms.
Among the technology advancements:
- New iOS and iPad apps developed with Apple’s latest UI framework SwiftUI and a custom architecture
- Architected for real-time updates on the leaderboard, player stats and more (achieved with AWS AppSync) on the back-end
- New backend/middleware layer that removes business logic from the frontend, increases scalability, and simplifies maintenance
“We worked closely with our clients at the TOUR to help them envision and then launch platforms that enhanced the fans’ enjoyment of the game by bringing them closer than ever to their favorite players and tournaments,” said Bethany Pensworth, Group Director of Product Management at Work & Co. “The leaderboard and stats sit alongside video, photography, and stories that makes the data easier to digest, while the immersive video and aerials make it feel like you’re on the course.”
Said Derek Fridman, Design Partner at Work & Co: “We together set a goal of kicking off 2023 with a suite of purposeful digital touchpoints that are all underpinned by deep fan research. By taking a platform approach to the rollout of PGA TOUR’s digital products, the overarching design concept has a unified look and feel across all platforms, ensuring seamless transitions from the website to the app, and across all tours.”
Work & Co was also responsible for creating the PGA TOUR’s design system that will underpin more ongoing growth for the brand. As the platform evolves, the team will continue launching more features, including the ability to connect fan accounts for tickets and enable streaming so experiences can be consolidated on one platform. Future integration of augmented reality and new features will enhance the on-site experience, as well.
